Hi! I know it's been awhile, but this is my most recent project. My class is doing this project called the Memory project. The Memory Project invites students and teachers to create portraits of children living in poverty. After the portraits are done, you send them back along with a picture of yourself and the children send back a portrait of you.

This is concentration #8 and I'm pretty proud of it! In my last concentration I realized how nice fabric comes out in pastel and how fun it is to do so I tried to incorporate his shirt more in my reference picture. I also like the change in background to something more real rather than a solid background, it adds something different. The background actually reminds me of Drake's NWTS album.
This piece is about women empowerment. Throughout time, women have been interpreted as mere objects rather than human beings who are capable of withholding an immense amount of strength. This piece shows that women are much more than they are sometimes made out to be. I enjoyed doing a diverse group of girls for this piece because it allowed me to experiment with different skin tones and hair colors.
These are some old drawings I did from back when I was in....middle school I think??? I loved being creative with my drawings and having so much color involved in every piece. It's so fun to look back on what I enjoyed drawing back then compared to the work I do now.
So last week I was able to see the progress of my classmates and even my own along this journey towards the AP exam. There was a piece of paper where we wrote our concentration idea and where we had the opportunity to ask anyone for any suggestions or ideas. We all went around the classroom and scored each other based off of what we think that person would score on the actual exam. We also left some constructive criticism, ideas and nice comments! I think this was a great reminder to let us know that we're all going through this together haha. I loved seeing everyones work and leaving comments and feeling like I could help! I obviously have work to do and room to grow bigger ideas but I'm happy with the progress I've made this far!
So this is my 6th concentration! I decided to do a self portrait. I used chalk pastel for this piece and through my ap art journey, I've realized that I love chalk pastel and the results! I'm trying to experiment using more color in the hair and skin tones! Still tons of room for improvement but I hope to get better with every piece.
These are a few of the figure drawings I did during class! Drawing from observation is definitely a challenge, but it's fun!! I can't wait to put them all together and add more details...plus add pops of color in the background!
The process of this project was really fun. First, we did blind contours of each other which I struggled with in the beginning but got it once I started going bigger. Next, We painted them using acrylic paint and then we took a chance with the india ink. My two pieces turned kind of different. The first one has a more drippy effect I think because I only let the ink dry for a short amount of time. I personally like the second one better because I feel like the ink stayed on better and really changed the whole portrait.
This is my finished scratch board. It brought back so many memories from when I would order those rainbow mini scratch boards as a child. This was very tedious to me, theres so much detail that I didn't want to miss! I wish I didn't scratch away so much in certain areas because this piece doesn't have as much value as I wanted it to.
